Name: Clementine Alizé Delacour
Parents: Gabrielle Delacour and Kevin Whitby
Blood: Pureblood. Also she is 1/8th Veela, as her great-grandmother was one.
Birthday: February 7, 2004
House and year: Hufflepuff, 6th year
N.E.W.T. classes: Care of Magical Creatures, Transfiguration, Charms, Herbology, Divination
The Delacour Family History: Gabrielle Delacour was barely out of school when she was introduced to Kevin Whitby by a friend of a friend. It was love at first sight, at least that's what Gabrielle was certain it was. One thing lead to another and Gabrielle was pregnant and walking down the aisle. Deluded by visions of grandeur, the couple wasn't prepared for the rocky road of marriage and a baby that was ahead of them. It was rough that first year, very rough. Kevin was getting more and more distant, and Gabrielle, sitting at home pregnant with their second child, couldn't figure out why.... Until she found out that not only was Kevin having an affair, but the other woman was pregnant with his child. What was a proud Frenchwoman to do? She was a Delacour after all, and Delacour women would not stand for such an act. Kevin came home one night, and she told him to leave and never return.
After that, Gabrielle gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Clementine Alizé, and raised both Clementine and her 1 year old, Étienne Henri, without a man by her side. Because of the great infidelity of their marriage, Gabrielle refused to even have her children go by their father's surname. It was much more appropriate, in her opinion, to have her children go by the respected name of Delacour. This is why Clementine and her older brother are known as Delacours to anyone that counts. Very shortly after her divorce, Gabrielle bought a two flat in Dover. She turned the bottom half into a bakery and the upstairs she lived in with her two children. After a lot of hard work and determination, Gabrielle managed to raise two healthy children and have a successful French bakery that was the clear favorite of all the local villagers and tourists that came through. It was a little a piece of home when they were still far away from France itself.
Gabrielle rarely sought help with her little family. She was a strong, independent woman, after all. Naturally, Fleur would demand to assist in any way she could, and Gabrielle couldn't deny her one and only sister. There was a point when Gabrielle was determined that her children would go to Beauxbatons. There was no way she was going to allow Étienne and Clementine to attend Hogwarts, the same institution where her ex-husband's children were bound to attend. Upon hearing this, Fleur convinced Bill to help her intervene. Fleur's argument was that she would be doing Étienne and Clementine a disservice by sending them to a school where they didn't have any close family. At least with Hogwarts, Gabrielle's children would have their first cousins. "Eet would be better to zend 'zem to a school 'ere zey 'ave az much family az zey do, instead of whizking zem away to France 'ere zey 'ave none," she had told her, and Gabrielle couldn't argue with that.
The little Delacour family is a very close one. They've been through a lot together, and throughly enjoy each other's company. Besides Bill and Fleur's family, they don't have too many close relations in the United Kingdom. Clementine and Étienne have both helped in the bakery as soon as they were old enough. Even to this day, whenever Clementine is home she'll be found in the bakery taking orders or filling someone's glass with hot chocolate. The three have developed a close relationship, and Clementine loves her mother and brother more than anything. They are her everything, and she'd do anything for them.
Her "other" family must be mentioned for the sake of it is what it is. Yes, Clementine has two half-siblings that attend Hogwarts, but she didn't know them much until she went to school. Daniel is in the same house and year as she is, and it's only natural that she would see him often. She is amiable to him, of course, she wouldn't be anything but. Unfortunately, the awkward situation of their family leaves them at odds for a more personal friendship. Clementine and Étienne only see their biological father once a month at dinner or lunch (as much as Gabrielle would allow), and now that they are in school they see him even less. Clementine has never had a close relationship with her father (whom she calls Kevin), and if anything, she is rather estranged from him. She has no hard feelings, of course. It's been like this since she was born, so Clementine doesn't really know how it would be any different.
School History: As soon as Clementine was told she'd be attending Hogwarts just like Étienne and Sébastien (her eldest cousin) were, Clementine was ecstatic! She couldn't wait to get her letter! When it finally arrived she was so excited that she began packing that very morning. At a long last, she walked to into the Great Hall with the rest of the first years. At first, she was sure she wanted to be a Ravenclaw. That's where Étienne was and he just raved about it so, but all the houses looked so wonderful too! Clementine would even be happy to go Slytherin if she had to. Yes, they seemed a little...cold, but all the more reason for her to go cheer them up! As soon as the hat touched her head it immediately shouted, "HUFFLEPUFF!" Grinning ear to ear, she joined the table of smiling, friendly looking individuals.
Ever since that first day at Hogwarts, the school has held a special place in Clementine's heart. She loves going to class and learning about new things. She's not the very best student, but through hard work and determination she manages to do well in her classes. But Hogwarts is not just about schoolwork, Clementine also loves the social atmosphere. She's a very social, talkative girl, and Hogwarts is the perfect setting for her. Clementine likes to think that she has many friends at Hogwarts. With an extremely friendly attitude, bright optismism, and a dash of that inherited Delacour charm, most find Clementine endearing and enjoyable to be around.
Personality: Armed with rose-tinted glasses, Clementine is a dreamer with a big heart. She loves to talk to everyone and matches her genuine conversation with a sweet, gentle nature. She likes to think the best of everyone, unless they prove her wrong (or an extremely credible source tells her otherwise). There probably isn't a mean bone in her body, and even if she tried to be mean to someone, she'd instantly retract what she said thinking that she hurt his or her feelings. She would rather die than upset someone which why she also has a hard time saying no to anyone. It gets her into trouble more often than not.
Likes:
- Love: Clementine loves the idea of love. She loves all the grandeur and big romantic gestures. Ever since she was little, she's loved stories about valiant knights rescuing damsels in distress. Flowers, chivalry, all the little things. Every time a boy holds a door open for her, her heart does a little flutter. She has a very wide-eyed innocence about matters of the heart, and pair that with a naivete that she can't seem to shake, makes her an easy target for eventual heartbreak.
- Her Ferret: Over the summer, Clementine came into the possession of a ferret, Tizzy. He 's white and adorable. She knows she's not technically allowed to have a ferret in school, but she just keeps telling people he's an overgrown, extra furry rat. She hopes no one will notice or ask questions about this... As long as her roommates don't freak out when they find that some of their shiny earrings and random trinkets are missing, only to discover them underneath the comfy couch in the common room. Ferrets tend to have some magpie tendencies... Clementine loves Tizzy and couldn't bear to be away from him, so she's hoping that her roommates will be agreeable towards him (and that everyone will think he's a rat).
- French Food (more specifically baked goods): Clementine grew up living upstairs from her mother's bakery, so she loves the smell of fresh baguettes in the morning. She's also developed a fondness for sweet French pastries. Gabrielle often sends her care packages from home filled with sweets and goodies. These are some of Clementine's favorite things, so she often shares them with her housemates.
- Feminine things (and pretty things!): Clementine adores her school uniform because it has a skirt. She loves dresses, makeup, and Witch Weekly. Every so often, she'll even put a brightly colored ribbon in her hair (or on Tizzy) because she can and it looks pretty.
Dislikes:
- People in pain: She hates seeing others hurting. That's why she wants to be a nurse later on in life.
- Breaking the rules: Sure with a convincing argument she might break a rule or two, but generally speaking Clementine is a rule abiding citizen of Hogwarts.
- The way she over thinks things: Clementine has had this problem for as long as she can remember. Whether is be with school work or someone giving her a smile or dirty look, it usually results in her mind fabricating this, often ridiculous reasons as to why or how that event happened. She over thinks a possible bad grade on a test, and most definitely over thinks if a boy winks at her. 99.9% of the time all the things she over thinks tend to be nothing in the end.
Sexuality: She's part Veela, so naturally there's a part of her that tends to attract the opposite sex whether she likes it or not. Despite this biological trait (which can be more of a curse than a blessing), she's had very little relationship experience (if you could even call holding hands when you were 10 relationship experience) and doesn't actively pursue a boy unless she's extremely interested in them. She doesn't get infatuated too often, but when she does she's extremely proactive in getting his attention. This includes, but is not limited to, "coincidentally" appearing outside said person's classroom, extravagant hair flips--often completely unnecessary, etc. It also must be said that Clementine is still a virgin, not because she hasn't wanted to have sex, just that she hasn't found the right person. She wants it to be "special" for her first time. Although, when alcohol is involved Clementine generally feels that everyone is completely smashing (girls and boys alike), and she's a rather affectionate drunk... So random canoodling with random people isn't exactly foreign territory.
Appearance: Clementine is 5' 7" with light blonde hair and pale green eyes. A fair complexion that is typical of the females in her family. Her hair is on the long side and is often seen down and wavy. She was blessed with a Delacour frame, so she's on the slender side much like her mother and aunt.
Is your character a Prefect or Head? No, Clementine is not a Prefect. It would be quite an honor, but Clementine isn't good in an authoritative role.
Does your character play Quidditch? She loves to cheer on her team and watch the game, but she's not so in love with it that'd she'd want to actually play herself.
Tell us three random things about your character:
1) Knitting is something Clementine really enjoys. It's a great hobby. She loves making gifts for people, like hats and socks (who doesn't want a really cozy pair of socks?!).
2) One of her dreams is to be an Animagus. She thinks that that would be the coolest thing ever.
3) Clementine secretly wishes she was closer to her father.
